SUMMARY:Critical Skills Diver
DESCRIPTION:OBJECTIVE\nCritical Skills Diver training prepares Public Safety Divers (PSDs) to use repetition in training as a means to improve in water confidence and competence. PSDs are introduced to the concepts of muscle memory\, stress survival responses\, and crisis rehearsal for self-rescue. Proper response to key underwater emergencies are examined and practiced. Student skill level evolves through repetition of familiar and unfamiliar challenges. Simply\, this course introduces the knowledge and skills that help PSDs develop the ability to prevent and / or survive a diving emergency. \nPREREQUISITES\n\nMember of a Public Safety Agency\nAt least 18 years old\nRSTC Medical Statement\nCurrent First Aid\, EMT or Paramedic certification\nCurrent CPR certification\n\nBRING TO CLASS\n\nUS Coast Guard approved PFD with knife and whistle\nAdequate clothing and protection from the environment\nPen and paper for note- taking and sketching.\n\nDiving students must provide their own equipment: Wetsuit or dry suit\, scuba regulator: recently serviced + environmentally protected with alternate air source (i.e.: octopus)\, timing device\, depth + submersible pressure gauge\, BC with oral/power inflator\, 4 tanks with current Hydro + VIP\, mask\, snorkel\, fins\, weight belt + 2 cutting tools (knife\, wire cutters\, or trauma shears).

SUMMARY:Humminbird Sonar Technician
DESCRIPTION:OBJECTIVE\nThis program was developed for Law Enforcement\, Fire\, and Water Rescue Teams who utilize Humminbird sonar. These cost effective systems provide First Responders with an affordable solution for underwater search operations. The system features the same style imagery as traditional side scan sonar systems and requires many of the same image interpretation skills required for towed sonar systems. This program will guide you through the setup\, use\, and limitations of these side imaging sonars. The program also provides imagery of drowning victims and victim surrogates for comprehensive training. This program will inexpensively let your team get the most from of your system. \nPREREQUISITES\n\nAt least 18 years of age\nMember of a Public Safety Agency\n\nBRING TO CLASS\nAll students will need: \n\nU.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)\nA knife\nA whistle\nAdequate clothing for working outside\nPen and paper for taking notes and sketching

SUMMARY:Public Safety Scuba Instructor
DESCRIPTION:OBJECTIVE\nThe goal of the Public Safety Scuba Instructor (PSSI) program is to certify qualified candidates to train non-divers as Public Safety Divers (PSDs). The Public Safety Diver (PSD) certification is the equivalent to an open water certification. As a PSSI\, the instructor will be prepared to present a comprehensive course of study to members of public safety agencies aspiring to become PSDs. PSSIs not only train new PSDs\, but can upgrade their team’s level of training by cross-training certified open water divers to the PSD level. PSSIs utilize a comprehensive educational system of teaching material including a PSD student manual\, audio visual material\, a thorough PSSI manual\, and a comprehensive pool and open water training system. The PSSI and PSD certification is recognized by and meets or exceeds all instructional requirements of the Recreational Scuba Training Council. The PSSI program is presented and managed through a cooperative effort between the instructor’s department and Dive Rescue International. By incorporating your own PSSIs into your department\, you can contribute a substantial cost-effective and proven training program to your department. \nPREREQUISITES\n\nMember of a Public Safety Agency\nAt least 21 years old\nCurrent Dive Rescue 1 certification\nCompletion of Med Dive [must be 2 day (20 hour) course]\nA minimum of 100 logged dives (at least 50% must be training/operational dives while remaining 50% can be recreational dives with only 2 pool dives/year acceptable)\nCurrent First Aid\, EMT or Paramedic certification\nCurrent CPR certification\n\nBRING TO CLASS\n\nUS Coast Guard approved PFD with knife and whistle\nAdequate clothing and protection from the environment\nPen and paper for note- taking and sketching.\n\nDiving students must provide their own equipment: Wetsuit or dry suit\, scuba regulator: recently serviced + environmentally\nprotected with alternate air source (i.e.: octopus)\, timing device\, depth + submersible pressure gauge\, BC with oral/power inflator\,\n4 tanks with current Hydro + VIP\, mask\, snorkel\, fins\, weight belt + 2 cutting tools (knife\, wire cutters\, or trauma shears).
