Prerequisites

Overview

This program is designed for personnel who are physically fit. Participants are encouraged to participate after successfully completing the IADRS Watermanship Test or testing to a fitness level of 13 MET (Metabolic Equivalents) or greater. Participants with aerobic fitness questions or concerns should consult their physician prior to in-water training. Participants who have poor aerobic fitness may attend this program as surface support personnel with the approval of the instructor.

Duration

POOL SELECTION

The pool must have an area at least 10 feet in depth, and must be at least 40 feet wide. Both the deep and shallow ends will be utilized. Typically, hotel pools are too small. A high school, college, or community pool is a better option.

Prerequisites:

All students must be a member of a public safety agency and at least 18 years of age. Students must read and complete a RSTC medical statement prior to attending class. Any diver answering yes to any contraindication must have the form signed by a physician. All diving personnel must provide proof of Dive Rescue I certification.

OPEN WATER SELECTION

It is possible to run the second day of this course in an open water setting. Visibility is desirable. Water should be 10-25 feet deep and bottom contour should be relatively free of debris. Students will not be allowed to dive below 40 feet. Hosts must consult with instructors to determine if open water settings are appropriate for this training.
