Rapid Intervention Techniques and Deep Dive Operations – Warsaw, IN September 1-2 and 3-4, 2024

The Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Dive Rescue International have organized a 2 class series in Warsaw, Indiana consisting of Rapid Intervention Techniques and Deep Dive Operations at the beginning of September, 2024.

Rapid Intervention Techniques

Public Safety Divers (PSDs) establish baseline skills, knowledge, and abilities to recognize and respond to a PSD in distress on the surface or submerged. This course addresses requisite knowledge requirements found in NFPA standards through a practical approach to learning. Although substantial discussion and delivery of knowledge is included, the program is intended to be conducted in a ‘field’ setting. Standard AHJ equipment is used for divers. Rapid Intervention Techniques for PSDs are potentially lifesaving when a person within an IDLH atmosphere is in distress and is unable to mitigate the situation without outside intervention by a person capable of using specific techniques to aid and remove them from the hazard. Simply stated, this class focuses on the role and proper response of Safety and 90% Divers.

Key training topics include:

  • RIT – DIVER AND TEAM
  • COMMAND, COMMUNICATIONS, AND ACTIONS
  • RIT MANAGEMENT OF UNRESPONSIVE DIVER
  • DCI AND DCS

BE SURE TO BRING

Participants are encouraged to use ‘mission ready’ dive rescue gear appropriate to their team or AHJ including: Exposure Protection, Full Face Mask, Buoyancy Control Device, Regulator, Depth Gauge, SPG, Alternate Air Source, Compass, 2 Cutting tools, Weight System, and Fins.

Each student must have access to one full scuba cylinder per pool session.

Deep Dive Operations

Deep Dive Operations is Dive Rescue International’s two day (16 hour) training program for certified Public Safety Divers who may face operations in water depths up to 130 feet. This program is conducted in classroom and open-water. After orientation, students practice skills in 4 open water dives over 2 days.

The objectives of the Deep Diver program are to establish a baseline set of skills and processes for deep dive operations. Students learn the skills to plan and conduct Open Circuit, No-Deco, Scuba Dives between depths of 60’ to 130’ of water.

Key training topics include:

  • REVIEW OF DIVING PHYSICS AND DIVE PHYSIOLOGY
  • PLANNING SAFE DEEP DIVES
  • USE OF PLATFORMS OR VESSELS TO SUPPORT SAFE DEEP DIVE OPERATIONS
  • NITROGEN NARCOSIS

PREREQUISITES

All students must be a member of a public safety agency and at least 18 years of age. Students must read and complete an RSTC medical statement prior to attending class. Any diver answering yes to any contraindication must have the form signed by a physician. Diving students must have proof of open water certification.

This program is designed for personnel who are physically fit. Diving students must provide their own equipment: Scuba regulator: recently serviced and environmentally protected with alternate air source (i.e.: octopus, Air II, etc.), timing device, depth and submersible pressure gauges, BC with oral/power inflator, two tanks with current Hydro & VIP, mask, snorkel, fins, weight belt and two cutting tools (knife, wire cutters, or trauma shears).
